Sweet Tooth

Sugar isn't good for you, but do you know what's worse? Artificial Sweetners. Aspartame (a common  artificial sweetner) is used in “sugar-free” products such as diet soft drinks and chewing gum. Since its discovery is 1965 it has been shown to cause several serious diseases such as: brain tumors, headaches, memory loss, seizures, liver disease, hearing loss, dizziness and cancer. It also worsens or mimics the symptoms of diseases and conditions such as fibromyalgia, MS, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, chronic fatigue and depression. Such a dangerous chemical, yet it is found in so many processed foods on our shelves today. Yet another reason to read those ingredient lists carefully.

  1. How very sensationalist! Perhaps you should consider writing for "A Current Affair" or "Today Tonight"...

The statement you make is very definitive, as if you are stating fact, yet you supply no references. Indeed, artificial sweeteners are likely to be bad for you, just like anything else manufactured in a laboratory. Yet, they continue to put the stuff out there for human consumption. Either the science behind these studies wasn't as convincing as it needed to be or the jury is still out on exactly how bad these compounds are...

It is very dangerous to make such conclusive statement regarding such a broad spectrum of multi-factorial medical conditions without providing a shred of evidence.

  2. Sorry I completely forgot the references for this!I've updated the post with references.
Although the research out there is sketchy at bests, it's important to remember that no real long term studies on aspartame have been conducted.
Below are just a few articles relating to the detrimental health effects of Aspartame. Have a read of a few (these are links only to the abstracts I'm afraid) and decide for yourself why it is out there for human consumption. In my humble opinion it is not for governing bodies to keep things out of the food we consume, but for us as a public to be educated and make our own decisions on what we put into our bodies. The responsibility is completely on each individual to decide what is best for him or herself. Thanks for the comment.
